Visa Transaction Controls (VTC)

Your card's financial command and control centre

Visa Transaction Controls empower the customer to manage card usage with card controls and provide near real-time notifications of activity on an enrolled card.

02 / 09

Reading the card toggle

On the card image, staff and customers will see a toggle switch symbol. It will be:

  • Green — the "Active" setting is On and no limitations have been set.
  • Yellow — the "Active" setting is On and some limitations have been set.
  • Red — the "Active" setting is Off (preventing any use of the card).

Tapping this symbol changes the card from Active to Not-Active and back.

Green — Active, no limits set
Yellow (limits set) / Red (blocked)

To see or change any of the settings for a card, on the card image, tap the down-arrow icon to see the features menu, then select "Controls".

Features menu

Each On/Off setting is shown as a green toggle switch (if On/Active) or a grey toggle switch (if Off/Blocked). Tap the toggle switch to change that setting.

03 / 09

The "Active" setting

By changing the "Active" setting to Off, no transactions of any kind will be approved. When On/Active, specific limits described below apply, if any.

04 / 09

Alerts

To be notified of each approved transaction, enter an amount for the "Approvals Above" setting. Entering zero (0) generates a notification for every approved transaction.

To be notified of each declined transaction, enable the "Declines" option.

Once alerts are configured, the cardholder receives these notifications in real time as transactions occur.

Note: The phone's own notification setting for this app determines whether an alert shows as soon as it's received. Customers should be encouraged to allow notifications when prompted.

In any case, all alerts received can be viewed later on the "Notifications" page.

05 / 09

Geo Controls

Customers can limit which countries (meaning where the merchant is based) their card can be used in.

Tap to choose between "All countries" and "Some countries". If "Some countries" is chosen, the selected countries are listed — tap "Some countries" again to change the selection. Remind customers not to forget their home country.

When travelling or making purchases from a merchant in a different country, customers can temporarily allow transactions for that country — and should remember to change the setting back afterward.

06 / 09

Spend Limits

Spending limits can be set in two ways:

  • Per Transaction, or
  • Per Month (meaning per billing cycle)

These amounts are in the currency of the card/account.

Per Transaction
Per Month

If no limits have been entered, "NO LIMIT" is shown. Account balance and credit limits still apply regardless.

07 / 09
